Container Transport

With full command of the İskenderun and Mersin ports, 20′ and 40′ container haulage, distribution and export logistics; for all cargo types from iron-steel to general cargo.

What Is Container Transport?

Container transport is the carriage of standard-sized metal containers from the port area to the recipient’s facility, or from the export loading point to the port, by a tractor–semi-trailer combination. The discharge of imported loads arriving by sea, the container loading and port delivery of export loads, and empty-container management form the three basic components of this service. With its İskenderun-based infrastructure and many years of experience in port operations, Çevikoğlu Logistics is one of the reliable addresses for container logistics in the İskenderun and Mersin region.

In container haulage and distribution, time is critical: port demurrage periods and detentions create additional costs. Our operations team springs into action as soon as customs release approval is obtained; by running in-port coordination and road tracking simultaneously, it delivers your containers to the delivery point in the shortest possible time.

Our İskenderun and Mersin Port Connection

The Gulf of İskenderun is home to two important anchors of Türkiye’s southern maritime trade, both İskenderun Port and Mersin International Port (MIP), a few dozen kilometres away. The geographical proximity of our head office and operational infrastructure to both ports minimises haulage preparation times and increases our vehicle turnaround speed and daily service capacity.

İskenderun Port is the region’s critical gateway, especially for iron-steel export, general cargo and project loads. We provide on-site coordination for container loads originating from the İSDEMİR area and steel factories. On the Mersin MIP connection, import discharge and export loadings linked to major container lines are managed.

20′ and 40′ DC/HC Container Options

The choice of container type directly affects both the transport cost and the suitability of the sea-route connection. Standard 20-foot (TEU) containers are efficient in terms of weight limit, especially for heavy and dense loads (iron-steel, machine parts, chemical bulk), and are the most common container type. Standard 40-foot (FEU) containers are advantageous for bulky but relatively light loads. In 40-foot High Cube (HC) containers, the internal height is 2.69 metres, offering the possibility of fitting an extra layer in palletised loads such as textiles, furniture and packaged food.

For special loads, open-top and flat-rack containers are also within our operation scope. Over-dimensional machinery or large structural elements are carried with port coordination, with the suitable container type determined according to the cargo characteristics.

Port-Door Haulage and Last-Mile Distribution

The process from collecting the import container at the port to delivering it to the recipient’s warehouse forms the essence of port-door transport. In this process, each of the stages of the customs exit document (exit permit), port gate exit, coordination with the carrier and delivery to the recipient address must be managed completely. As Çevikoğlu Logistics, we coordinate all these stages from a single source, taking on the customer’s burden of communicating with multiple service providers.

On the export side, we manage the processes of empty-container delivery from the factory or warehouse, filling and container delivery to the port gate. Timely port delivery is critical, especially in tight export ship schedules (cut-off); therefore we structure our operation planning backwards from each container’s cut-off time.

Iron-Steel Export and Industrial Loads

The İskenderun region is home to Türkiye’s largest integrated iron-steel facilities. We offer speed and reliability in sending sheet, profile, wire rod, pipe and steel products from these facilities to the world in export containers with our experienced operational staff and strong port connection. For heavy and long profile loads, container weight limits and chock (stowage) planning are applied meticulously. We also have specialised service capacity in full-container transport of metal scrap, ore concentrate and similar heavy industrial products.

In-Port and Road Tracking

The traceability of container movement provides both assurance and ease of planning for the customer. Our operations team tracks the container position within the port and shares exit approval, gate exit and on-road location information with our customer. From the ship’s arrival, the port release process is closely monitored, and all the coordination needed to leave the container area without unnecessary demurrage accruing is ensured.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Container Transport

Although it depends on the field conditions and port congestion of İskenderun Port (İSDEMİR/İSKENDERUN), our operations team can usually carry out container collection and haulage the same day or the next day after the release procedures are completed. Similar speed is targeted on Mersin International Port (MIP) connections. The port release process is directly dependent on the completeness of your customs and import documents.
A 20-foot (TEU) container has a volume of approximately 33 m³ and a loading capacity of 28 tons, while a standard 40-foot (FEU) container has approximately 67 m³ and 28 tons of capacity. The 40-foot High Cube (HC) is 30 cm taller than the standard 40-foot and offers 76 m³ of volume. While 20′ DC stands out for heavy but volumetrically compact products (iron-steel, machinery), 40′ HC provides an advantage for bulky and light products (textiles, furniture, plastic). When you share the weight and dimensions of your cargo, we determine the most suitable container type together.
Yes. We offer the service of collecting an empty container from the warehouse area or factory and delivering it to the port area or the export loading point. Similarly, the return of unloaded containers to the port or their delivery to designated container depots is within our operation scope. We manage the coordination with shipowners and agents in empty-container positioning and restitution processes.
İskenderun and its surroundings constitute one of Türkiye’s most important iron-steel production basins. Depending on the packaging form of iron-steel products such as sheet, profile, pipe and wire, the 20′ DC container provides ease of handling both at the port and at the recipient facility. For heavy loads, weight calculation per axle is made; when necessary, special flat-rack or open-top containers are used. We make an assessment on request for cost calculation and route optimisation specific to iron-steel export.
In the import process, after the container is released at the port, our operations team delivers the container to the recipient’s warehouse or factory with a tractor and semi-trailer. Unloading at the warehouse, returning the container to the port and issuing the necessary port documents are complementary services of the process. If a bonded-warehouse transit is required, it is managed in coordination with our contracted customs broker.
On every container shipment, we provide real-time tracking from the in-port movements to the final delivery point. The container position in the port area and exit approval are monitored through our operations team; the location of the container on the road is displayed with the vehicle tracking system. Proactive information is given to our customer at critical stages such as release, gate exit and delivery. Our operations, reachable 24/7 during and outside business hours, respond to tracking requests.
